Educational Technician Position Overview
Educational Technicians provide support services to the teachers and students learning in and out of the classroom through implementing a variety of techniques. Educational technicians provide supportive educational services to credentialed personnel. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head of School.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions of the ed tech include, but are not limited to the following:
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the classroom teacher/content specialist under the supervision of the classroom teacher/content specialist.
- Review of all Individualized Education Plans (IEP's), 504 Plans, and Personal Learning Plans, (PLP's), to have a basic understanding of accommodations and modifications, as required.
- Assist the teacher/content specialist in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based upon the understanding of the students' individualized educational plans, (IEP's), 504 plans, Personal Learning Plans (PLP's), needs, interests and abilities.
- Work with a learner centered philosophy and act as a team player with educators and content specialists.
- Exhibits a professional, positive attitude that adds to our culture of community and student support and accountability.
- Provides individual and group services in a variety of settings and models.
- Establishes an effective rapport/relationship with children, parents, and staff.
- Effectively communicates both orally and in writing with a wide variety of people.
- Works collaboratively as a member of an IEP, 504, PLP or other student-centered team.
- Maintains composure in stressful situations.
- Motivates students to succeed and engage in learning.
- Helping students study the daily learning material, designing activity plans for students, supporting teachers by grading papers, and assisting with department-wide administrative duties.
- Attends orientation and training as required.
- Follow specific procedures as outlined by behavior intervention plans.
- Assist with other duties (e.g. lunch duty, filling in as a substitute, etc.), as assigned by the Head of School.

Other Functions (Legal And Ethical Duties)
- Maintains confidentiality related to all aspects of student performance and written or oral records.
- Demonstrates a respect for the legal and human rights of students.
- Meets and follows all laws and regulations at both the state and federal levels.
- Follows health and safety procedures established by the Lee Academy.
- Arrives and departs punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage.
- Demonstrates loyalty, dependability, integrity, and other ethical standards.
- Follows the chain of command for various administrative procedures for student or program concerns.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities Required)
- Hold a high school diploma or GED.
- Currently holds State of Maine teacher certification and/or obtains and maintains authorization as an Educational Technician in accordance with Chapter 115 of the Maine Department of Education.
- Willingness to participate in on-going in-service activities in the specialty area of employment.
- Required certifications, endorsements and/or licenses: 021-Ed Tech I, or any teacher endorsement, specialist certificate or administrator certificate.
- Possesses working knowledge of disabilities and special education methods.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in written format and ability to perform work requested.
- Ability to read, reason, understand policies, procedures, and related information; and to provide and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
- Skills and proficiencies for basic computer utilization.
- Must pass/have a current CHRC certificate through the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) and must maintain a clear criminal history for the duration of employment.
