The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals providing forest protection, emergency response, resource management, and environmental education across 100 counties in North Carolina.
Responsibilities include presenting forestry/environmental education programs, designing and developing programs, coordinating volunteers, maintaining trails and facilities, enforcing rules, assisting in wildfire suppression, and participating in forest management activities such as prescribed burning, timber harvesting oversight, reforestation, and wildlife management. Rangers may work on district and out-of-district projects.
Typical hours are 8-5 M-F, with extended hours during fire danger periods and emergencies. Overnight travel may be required. Duty station: 2256 Old US 70 West, Clayton, NC.
Successful completion of employer-provided Ranger Training is required. Uniform and a State-owned vehicle are provided. Applicants should review benefits and application instructions provided in the original posting.
Experience or training in Environmental Education is preferred.
Options include an associate degree in a related field, or a high school/GED diploma with two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license required within 90 days of hire.
