Job summary

Fall River Deaconess Home in Fall River, MA seeks an Educational Specialist to provide individualized academic support for grades 6-12, along with behavioral coaching and oversight of after-school tutoring. Qualifications

The Educational Specialist provides individualized academic support, classroom instruction, behavioral coaching, and oversight of the after-school tutoring program for students in grades 6-12. Key Responsibilities

Academic Instruction & Student Support

Implement instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and supports identified in students’ IEPs under the guidance of classroom teachers and special education staff.
Collect and document academic and behavioral data that teachers and special education staff can use for IEP progress monitoring and educational planning.
Provide individualized and small-group academic support across a variety of subject areas.
Support students in completing coursework, staying organized, and developing effective study habits.
Maintain ongoing communication with teachers regarding student progress, challenges, and educational needs.
Support vocational, life-skills, and functional academic instruction.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can succeed.
Provide classroom coverage during teacher absences, ensuring continuity of instruction and student engagement.
Coordinate and oversee the after-school tutoring program, including student participation, scheduling, instructional activities, and communication with relevant staff.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support

Utilize trauma-informed practices to support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
Implement de-escalation strategies, reinforce positive behavior, and contribute to a structured learning environment.
Collaborate closely with educators, clinicians, and treatment staff to support student success.
Help students develop self-regulation, coping, and social-emotional skills that contribute to academic achievement.

Program Development & Collaboration

Partner with Education Department staff to design and implement educational activities, workshops, special events, and enrichment opportunities.
Collaborate with the treatment team to align educational objectives with therapeutic goals.
Stay informed about current educational practices and apply innovative approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
Participate actively in team meetings, case reviews, and interdisciplinary planning.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, academic progress, behavioral observations, and achievements.
Collect and document data to support IEP progress monitoring and educational planning.
Contribute information for quarterly and annual reviews, treatment planning, and educational reports.
Ensure all documentation complies with agency policies, educational standards, and regulatory requirements.
