Job summary

Educational Developer I - 270006 – Western Carolina University

Department

Coulter Faculty Commons

Overview

The Educational Developer I will work directly with faculty and staff as part of the Coulter Faculty Commons (CFC) team to engage in initiatives and provide consultations, workshops, and events that advance teaching and learning excellence in keeping with the University’s mission and strategic goals. This position will also provide services assigned to the Coulter Faculty Commons to advance the CFC mission and vision. This position is exempt from the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (EHRA).

Responsibilities

The Educational Developer I will:

  • Engage with faculty and staff to advance teaching and learning excellence.
  • Provide consultations, workshops, and events aligned with the CFC mission and university goals.
  • Support program design, development, and delivery across teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Interested candidates must already be legally authorized to work in the United States and will not require immigration sponsorship or support.
  • Master’s Degree from an appropriately accredited university required.
  • Previous demonstrated experience working and teaching within higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution with relevant coursework preferred. A combination of coursework and experience in one or more of the following areas: instructional design, instructional technology, educational development, teaching and learning, higher education, adult education, and related areas.
  • Design and implementation of evidence-based instructional frameworks in higher education for all teaching modalities.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS), preferably Canvas.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Experience creating learning materials in multiple formats and managing complex projects.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including staying current with technology trends in higher education.
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
