Job summary

The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking Educational Assistants (Educational Assistant III, with I and II as needed) to support students with disabilities and assist with instructional tasks at an unspecified Hawaii location.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with ParaPro/ParaPathways or 48 college credits or an associate degree.
• Substitutions: CDA, 15 bachelor credits, or an associate/education degree can substitute for experience.
• Paid or volunteer experience with direct interaction with students is required or demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs academic and instruction-related support activities, tutors students, and reports on progress and difficulties.
• Provides social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities, observing and reporting on progress and suggesting modifications.
• Performs counseling support activities, develops rapport, encourages expression of problems, and carries out approved activities promoting self-concept, social skills, and early identification of special needs.
• Delivers articulation reinforcement lessons and repetitive drills to improve speech sounds under guidance of a speech pathologist; can receive related training.
