Primary Purpose
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Must successfully pass MISD paraprofessional test
- 48 College Hours/Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word documents
Experience
Preferred experience working with children, in a public education environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual scholars or small groups.
- Help supervise scholars throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom (lunchroom, bus, playground duty).
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual scholars.
- May perform duties at either elementary or secondary campus.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
