Job Description
To help, assist, and give support for the effective and efficient operation of the classroom and to the teacher in the learning‑teaching process.
Essential Job Functions
- Works with any and all students individually and in small groups.
- Transports students to designated school programming during the school day.
- Assists students with daily tasks, reads to students, conducts activities that maintain and reinforce prior learning.
- Helps students move from one activity to another in the classroom.
- Assists with seat work.
- Assists with supervision of pupils at recess, restroom breaks, and other times as set by the building principal.
- Helps children with programmed materials.
- Assists assigned teacher with checking individual skills of children.
- Plays learning games at direction of classroom teacher.
- Assists students who were absent with make‑up work.
- Responds to students in a kind, fair, professional, and engaging manner.
- Reinforces and explains school rules to students.
- Aids students with getting in and out of wearing apparel and footwear (as needed).
- Assists teachers with class projects.
- Assists in maintaining bulletin boards.
- Keeps permanent records up‑to‑date.
- Duplicates learning materials for class.
- Assists the assigned teacher with grading papers.
- Distributes and assists instructor with communiqués to be sent home with the children.
- Compiles and maintains inventory records.
- Takes daily attendance and lunch count, collects lunch and milk monies.
- Supervises general housekeeping duties.
- Assists teacher in supervision of various classroom activities, field trips, etc.
- Works with the library in locating lost and overdue books.
- Works in computer labs with the teacher.
- Assists in setting up and operating AV equipment.
Working Environment/Conditions
- The position works in a variety of settings including classrooms and outdoors and may experience heat or cold extremes as well as fumes, odors, dust; noise level moderate to loud.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- 18 years of age or more.
- Knowledge of office procedures, computer experience, and experience working with children.
- Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.
- Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.
- College credits in education preferred.
Education & Training
High School Diploma minimum.
Continuing Educational Training: None required.
Certificates & Licenses
- Sixty hours college credit preferred.
Clearances
- Fingerprint clearance.
- Criminal background check clearance.
