Job summary

Soliant Health is seeking a school-based American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a contract role. You will facilitate communication between students, staff, and the school community in a collaborative educational environment.

The ideal candidate will have ASL proficiency, K-12 interpreting experience, and certification or eligibility for state credentials, along with a professional, adaptable approach to diverse learning needs.

Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred.
  • Certified as a Sign Language Interpreter or eligible for state credentials.
  • Familiarity with Deaf culture and sensitivity to student needs.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, specialists, and interpreters.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and flexibility to adapt to dynamic classrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret classroom instruction, school events, meetings, and activities for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Accurately convey spoken information into ASL and vice versa, ensuring full access to academic content.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student matters.
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to suit various subjects and student learning levels.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom climate that supports student participation.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and support staff to align on goals and student progress.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as requested.
