Job Description Summary
This position is offered continuously and for multiple openings. The Educational Aide – Biology Lab in the Natural Sciences Department provides hands‑on laboratory experience, safety training, and support for faculty and students in a fast‑paced environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Learn and follow lab safety rules.
- Serve faculty and students with all in‑class technical issues.
- Prepare equipment, solutions, and perishables for biology labs.
- Read lab manuals, protocols, and experiment steps to troubleshoot.
- Set up and dismantle biology labs on a weekly or biweekly basis.
- Maintain a clean environment in classrooms and lab prep areas.
- Lead by example and train incoming lab aides.
- Assist faculty with safety attire/food checks before labs.
- Lifts and unpacks packages.
- Assist with operation of instructor computers and projectors.
- Perform duties with a professional demeanor and courtesy to all.
- Work as a member of a diverse team.
- Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information in accordance with state, federal, and college regulations.
- Comply with all published college rules and procedures, including FERPA and confidentiality requirements.
- Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled Santa Fe College student, in good academic and behavioral standing, taking six (6) or more credit hours.
- Must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
- Preferred: completion of laboratory coursework and prior lab experience.
