Job summary

California Department of Education (CDE) seeks an Education Programs Consultant to serve as the expert on attendance accounting and its impact on school funding. You will advise LEAs, prepare policy guidance, and collaborate with SFSD on apportionment calculations.

The role requires leadership, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex educational policies clearly to diverse stakeholders. Hybrid telework in California, with duties headquartered in Sacramento.

Qualifications

• Expert in attendance accounting laws, regulations, and practices with focus on K-12 apportionments.
• Ability to interpret and apply education policy and statutes clearly.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with LEAs and state agencies.

Responsibilities

• Advise COEs and district officials on attendance accounting procedures and ADA implications.
• Prepare correspondence and respond to questions from boards, COEs, districts, and officials.
• Provide consultative services to LEAs and auditors on fiscal issues from attendance practices.
• Collaborate with SFSD managers on attendance accounting resolutions and apportionment calculations.
• Analyze ADA credit requests from LEAs and review prior audit reports.
• Identify attendance requirements for new programs and design corresponding procedures.
• Update field resources to keep guidance current.
• Propose legislative cleanups to simplify attendance requirements for K-12 programs.
