Job summary

ST MARY'S COUNTY GOVERNMENT seeks a Museum Programmer to plan and manage education and recreational programs at all sites operated by the Museum Division, working with Site Managers to develop audiences, camps, and outreach.

You will build partnerships, coordinate internships and teacher training, manage budgets, and write curriculums while ensuring services across remote locations and outdoor activities, including occasional boat-related programming.

Qualifications

• College degree in education or related discipline or equivalent training and experience.
• At least 2 years of museum programming (or other non-profit) experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Requires background investigation with favorable consideration.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage existing programs and events with Site Managers.
• Develop new community programs, camps and scout activities.
• Review and adapt educational offerings for on-site and outreach programs.
• Develop partnerships for internships, field trips, and teacher training.
• Grow programming to serve extended populations (seniors, home-schooled students, etc.).
• Collaborate with Apprenticeship & Internship programs.
• Coordinate sponsorships and advertising needs with Friends and Marketing managers.

Job description

Plans all educational and recreational programs for the public at all sites operated by the Museum Division, in conjunction with the Site Managers; develops new programs and audiences; cultivates relationships with outside agencies to develop programs that fill a need; and works with Friends Administrator and Marketing Manager on sponsorships and advertising needs.

1. Reports directly to the Division Manager;
2. Works with Site Managers to plan and manage existing annual events and programs
3. Develops new community programs and experiences, including camps and scout badge programs;
4. Reviews existing educational offerings and audiences and makes recommendations for changes and develops new ones for both on site and as outreach programs, for youth and adults;
5. Develops and manages new partnerships within the educational community to promote internships, field trips, teaching opportunities, and teacher training opportunities;
6. Increases programming designed to serve an extended population such as senior citizens, home-schooled students, etc.;
7. Works with the Apprenticeship & Internship programs with The Patuxent Partnership.

9. Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, POS System, and simple office machines (photocopier, scanner).

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

1. Work requires operating between 4 remote locations as needed;

4. Work requires riding on a boat at times.
