Status: Regular, Full Time, Exempt
Pay Range: $44,030 – $51,310 (DOQ)
Reports to: GSTC Director

Job Summary
Under general direction and in alignment with Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC) and Jekyll Island Authority (JIA) mission and goals, the Education Program Manager provides both conceptual and hands-on leadership for the development, delivery, evaluation, and promotion of educational programs. This role oversees revenue-generating initiatives, staff supervision, and content development, playing a key role in connecting guests, students, and partners to the Center’s mission through engaging and impactful experiences.
Description
Administration and Operations
- Monitor and manage all education-related revenue programs through the point-of-sale system (Viva Ticket) and e-commerce platform (Shopify); analyze revenue data and optimize performance.
- Plan and oversee the department budget; manage supplies, timelines, and logistical needs for all education programs.
- Track and report weekly and monthly financial and impact metrics to support strategic decision-making.
- Approve and coordinate program bookings; monitor education inquiries via phone and email.
- Analyze participant feedback and program evaluations to inform improvement of services and program quality.
- Ensure compliance with JIA/state records retention policies; support program safety and risk management protocols, including after-hours response.
Staffing and Leadership
- Hire, train, and supervise 6-10 full and part-time staff, coordinate staffing for all programs and operations.
- Provide mentorship to staff and volunteers through ongoing professional development.
- Deliver and support specialty tours, seasonal offerings (e.g., turtle walks), and general admission programming.
Programs Management
- Guide the developmental framework for on and off-site programming.
- Oversee implementation of a diverse menu of mission-aligned programs targeting multiple age groups and learning styles, with a focus on conservation and pro-environmental behavior.
- Ensure educational content is accurate, engaging, and reflective of the GSTC and JIA’s conservation mission; collaborate with rehabilitation and research teams to integrate current science.
- Contribute to exhibit planning and development to enhance visitor education.
- Design and evaluate PreK–12 curriculum-based field trip and outreach content that aligns with Georgia and national academic standards.
- Develops programming to sustain and maximize participation and revenue growth.
Promotion and Collaboration
- Represent the GSTC at events, programs, trainings, conferences, or similar, as directed.
- Collaborates with Amenity Sales Specialist to schedule groups and programs.
- Collaborates with Historic Resources and Conservation in coordination of groups.
- Coordinate with the marketing team to provide promotional content and visuals for education programs and events.
- Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships across Coastal Georgia
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, biology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in formal or informal science education, including at least 2 years of staff supervision and budget management.
- Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) required within one year of hire; possession of CIG Trainer certification is required within 2 years of hire.
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills with a collaborative, energetic, and professional demeanor.
- Passionate about conservation education and committed to advancing sea turtle conservation through research, rehabilitation, and outreach.
- CPR and First Aid certified, or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Must be available to work occasional nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of the typical work day will be spent sitting.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical work day will be spent reaching, standing, walking and repetitive use of the wrists, hands and fingers.
- Less than 25% of the typical work day will be spent balancing, stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
- Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping, touching and more than 50% of the time communicating; talking and hearing.
- Visual abilities to perform tasks such as preparing and analyzing data and figure, transcribing, use of the computer and expansive reading. Required to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Required to make general observations of facilities or structures.
- Required to perform work activities both inside and outside. Exposure to extreme heat, high humidity and occasionally adverse weather conditions including extreme cold.
