Job summary

The Barr Foundation in Boston seeks a Program Associate to provide programmatic and administrative support to the Education team. You will help manage grantmaking, external relationships, research, and convenings to advance the program's goals.

The role requires strong organization, written and interpersonal skills, and collaboration with diverse partners. The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of relevant nonprofit experience and a bachelor’s degree, with a focus on education or philanthropy.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with evidence of strong editing skills.
  • Ability to gather, organize and synthesize information from diverse sources.
  • Professional demeanor with ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management experience.
  • Comfort working both independently and in a team with diverse groups.
  • High level of organization, time management and deadline discipline.
  • Proficiency with Office tools and digital collaboration platforms.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior program officer in reviewing inquiries and proposals.
  • Review budgets, workplans and anticipated outcomes for proposals.
  • Draft grant recommendations for board books and team review.
  • Monitor grant activities and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Assist with reviewing grant reports and maintaining required documentation.
  • Plan and support grantee convenings, site visits, and learning events.
  • Maintain accurate grantee records across multiple platforms.
