Job summary

The Department of Education Headquarters seeks an Education Program Specialist, GS-1720-13, FPL-GS-13, to advance education objectives and national policies. You will provide input into program priorities and advise managers on program activities across education initiatives.

This role offers telework eligibility, a path to leadership on major projects, and collaboration with federal, state, and local education officials.

Qualifications

• Requirements & Education: Degree with at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work, including at least 9 hours in education; or 24 hours in related field plus appropriate experience; or four years of relevant experience.
• Combination of education and experience as described; foreign education acceptable with equivalency documentation.
• At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience; education cannot substitute for experience.
• Foreign Education: submit a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcripts if used.
• ED family-friendly policies: excused leave for Parent/Teacher Conferences, health screenings, and volunteer leave; potential recruitment/relocation incentives.
• Student Loan Repayment Program eligibility as a recruitment incentive.

Responsibilities

• Provide input into development of education objectives, policies, and long-range priorities for the program unit.
• Offer broad advisory support to managers on program activities and related operations.
• Provide leadership for national, state, and local meetings and training for professional specialists.
• Represent the Office in meetings with lay and professional education organizations at multiple government levels.
