Job Summary


Oversees the administration and operations of health profession education programs which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Develops, prioritizes, and implements strategies that improve program quality, processes, and compliance.

Manages a health professions education program through organizing and delegating to team to design, conduct, and evaluate teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Plans and leads implementation of program improvements. Operational or program results can affect overall organization-wide performance and reputation.

Working closely with the Chief Administrative Officer. The Manager of Education Programs supervises and oversees all programmatic areas within Otolaryngology including medical student education, ACGME residencies, fellowships, and non-ACGME programs); visiting professors & scholars, summer interns/volunteers/affiliates, GME observerships, and all educational programs for Otolaryngology.

The incumbent will demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills in applying a detailed knowledge of responsibilities, functions, and the underlying management structure of the department. The incumbent acts on behalf of and makes decisions within the prescribed limits of authority of the Chief Administrative Officer.

The Education Manager is responsible for the daily oversight and supervision of the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited residency program in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, as well as four fellowships in Laryngology, Facial Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery, Pediatrics, and Head & Neck Cancer). This leadership position is responsible for the continued growth of these programs. The Manager partners with program directors, faculty, and GME (Graduate Medical Education) office in the School of Medicine to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures, compliance with the ACGME as well as any other certifying bodies (Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description


The UCSF Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ONHS) at the University of California, San Francisco is a recognized leader in clinical care, research, and education. The Department of ONHS consists of 9 clinical divisions performing ~83,000 procedures including General Otolaryngology; Pediatric Otolaryngology; Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery & Endocrine Surgery; Laryngology; Otology/Neurotology, & Skull Base Surgery; Rhinology & Sinus Surgery; Facial Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery; Sleep Surgery; and Audiology. Outpatient and inpatient clinical activities are performed across 7 sites across the SF Bay area - Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Zuckerberg San Francisco General, San Francisco VA, Redwood Shores, and Berkeley Outpatient Clinic. The Department of OHNS also consists of 5 research laboratories with ~$11M in sponsored research revenue in FY24/FY25 - Coleman Memorial Laboratory, Speech Neuroscience Laboratory, Epstein Laboratories, Head & Neck Cancer Research, and Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Lab.

The department consists of approximately 50 faculty members and 105 non-faculty academic and staff employees, including postdocs, visiting scholars, clinical volunteers, emeritus faculty and staff volunteers, 25 residents & 4 fellows, with a total annual budget of ~$44 million. The department has experienced rapid growth and has increased faculty by >20% in the last year. Additional recruitment and lab expansions are planned over the next three years.



Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of Lead/Supervisory/Manager experience
  • Ability to recruit faculty and integrate learners which requires high-level planning and coordination skills.
  • Working knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to operational and learning concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
  • Ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, learners, faculty, and other education program coordinators / managers.
  • Proficient in ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment. Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Proficient skills in training and guiding employees on site-specific administrative and operational processes. Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire staff to improve center services.
  • Working knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Working knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.
  • Working knowledge of assigned program requirements and curriculum.
