Job summary

Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) is seeking an experienced Education Manager to lead planning, management, and administration of the Head Start Education Content Area. The role supervises Center Coordinators and helps shape program design with families and specialists.

You will work with staff, Policy Council members, and community partners to promote high-quality learning experiences for children and ensure program compliance with Performance Standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent required; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least three years of experience; five years preferred.
• Experience with curriculum planning and teacher training.
• Experience supervising employees.
• Administrative and grant-related experience preferred.
• Proficiency with computers and common software (word processing, spreadsheets).
• Experience with child-assessment databases.
• Experience tracking and analyzing data to support program improvement.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Update the annual education plan in partnership with supervisors, staff, and families.
• Plan the educational program with an interdisciplinary team and oversee implementation.
• Represent MMCA’s Head Start program at community meetings and task forces.
• Review and evaluate programs with families and staff to ensure quality and compliance.
• Conduct classroom visits and provide on-site consultation and support to teaching staff.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to address behavioral and learning concerns.
• Gather, maintain, and analyze information for school-readiness reports.
• Oversee the home-based curriculum implementation.

Education ManagerMidcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) is seeking an experienced, collaborative Education Manager to lead the planning, management, and administration of the Head Start Education Content Area. This role supervises Center Coordinators, supports effective center operations, contributes to hiring and staff development, and helps shape educational program design based on community needs. The Education Manager works closely with staff, families, Policy Council members, and content-area specialists to promote high-quality learning experiences for children.Key ResponsibilitiesUpdate the annual education plan in partnership with the Disabilities & Mental Health Manager, Policy Council, parents, and center staff.Plan the educational program with an interdisciplinary team of staff, parents, and content-area specialists, and oversee implementation in accordance with applicable Performance Standards.Represent MMCA’s Head Start program at appropriate community meetings and task forces.Review and evaluate programs with parents, Policy Council members, and staff to strengthen quality and maintain compliance with Performance Standards and regulations.Conduct classroom visits, observe learning activities, and provide on-site consultation and technical assistance to Head Start teaching staff.Partner regularly with teaching staff to address behavioral or learning concerns and recommend supportive strategies that encourage positive behavior and learning.Gather, maintain, and analyze information used to develop school-readiness reports in collaboration with the Mental Health & Disabilities Manager.Oversee the implementation and operation of the home-based curriculum.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent discipline required; master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.At least three years of experience in a related role required; five years preferred.Experience with curriculum planning and teacher training.Experience supervising employees required.Administrative and grant-related experience preferred.Proficiency with computers and common software, including word-processing and spreadsheet applications, required. Experience with child-assessment databases preferred. Experience tracking and analyzing data to support continuous program improvement is also required.Additional RequirementsPossess and maintain a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance that meets state standards, and access to reliable transportation. Compliance with MMCA policies for safe vehicle operation is required.Before beginning employment, successfully complete fingerprint-based criminal background, child protective services, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record checks as required by state and federal childcare licensing regulations. Results must show no history of child abuse or exploitation and no disqualifying criminal or motor vehicle record that would prevent work with children.Compensation and BenefitsThis is a part-time position working 25 hours per week. Pay is based on experience and qualifications.
