Job summary

New Jersey Institute of Technology is seeking a Director of Labs- Education in the Civil & Environmental Engineering department to oversee undergraduate teaching laboratories, train staff and students in laboratory operations, calibrate equipment, and develop instructional materials for multiple lab courses.

The role includes coordinating with faculty on lab spaces, ensuring safety, and supporting outreach activities and student competitions, with a flexible schedule for departmental programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related area.
• 5–10 years of experience in experimental design and execution.
• Ability to understand experimental requirements and to recommend goal attainment.
• Computer literacy in major civil and environmental engineering software and data acquisition/experimental interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Ensure operation, safety, and instructional readiness of undergraduate teaching laboratories.
• Install, calibrate, and maintain analytical and environmental monitoring equipment.
• Develop procedures and training materials for lab courses and supervise training sessions.
• Teach laboratory sections such as Strength of Materials, Hydraulics, Geotechnical Engineering, and others.
• Assist in outreach events and student competitions.
• Propose equipment purchases and upgrades and coordinate vendor repairs.
