Salary/Position Classification

• $38,640+ Annual, Dependent on Experience, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

To perform laboratory technical duties in support of studies in the department of Biomedical Sciences. This position works 9.5 months out of the year (August 1 - May 15).

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of the teaching laboratories

• Prepare media and reagents for laboratory exercises
• Assist with the set-up and clean up of lab sessions
• Maintain cleanliness of laboratories and preparation areas
• Monitor condition of laboratory equipment; plate pourers and autoclaves Participate in laboratory sessions as needed
• Maintain biological testing and maintenance
• Maintain chemical inventory and SDS manual documents
• Prepare documents for lab as needed Safety management of biohazard materials

Departmental Chemical Inventory Coordinatory

• Create and maintain database/Excel system for managing chemical inventory for department
• Coordinate with departmental teaching and research lab to create a process for updating the chemical inventory

Departmental Safety and Compliance Coordinatory

• Conduct regular meetings with safety regarding changes to processes/procedures, and with each research and teaching lab to discuss and implement changes to meet safety requirements
• Work with research and teaching labs for remediation of any safety violations

Required Competencies

Minimum Requirements

• Associates degree in science related area, or HS diploma/GED and three years of related work experience
• Experience with basic laboratory skills, preparation of laboratory solutions, and record keeping.
• Experience with Excel or database management
• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
