Qualifications

  • Preferred: BS/BA in Education or related health field; national certification; BLS instructor certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assess learning needs for participants and their expectations of the tour/class.
  • Plan and organize tour materials and content per established curriculum and learner needs.
  • Create an environment that enhances learning and fosters positive interactions with unit staff.
  • Deliver information with adult-education principles and engaging presentation skills.
  • Maintain a non-judgmental, family-centered attitude and respect hospital policies vs. personal beliefs.
  • Promote safety during tours/classes and anticipated stay for participants.
  • Use multiple methods to evaluate comprehension and adapt teaching approaches accordingly.
  • Operate within standards of practice and stay current on hospital policies and expertise.

Job description

Overview

Provides instruction to new and expectant parents on a variety of perinatal health issues. The Education Instructor has advanced training and skill in the area of Maternal-Child and/or education. Works with women of child‑bearing ages.

Responsibilities
  • Utilizes a systematic approach to the assessment of the participant’s learning needs. Utilizes a systematic approach to the assessment of the participant’s expectations of the tour/class.
  • Plans and organizes tour materials and content according to established curriculum and individual and group learning needs and expectations. Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and class parent materials.
  • Plans, organizes and creates an environment in such a way that learning is enhanced. Promotes positive interactions with staff members on the units toured.
  • Skilled in actual presentation of information. Presentation based on adult learning principles.
  • Always exhibits a non-judgmental family-centered attitude. Tour guide/instructor can draw distinctions between personal beliefs or opinions, hospital policies and scientific facts.
  • Promotes safety both during the tour and/or class and the anticipated stay.
  • Utilizes a variety of methods to continuously evaluate the class/tour participant’s comprehension. Answers questions and changes approach accordingly.
  • Operates within the standards of practice as defined by departmental/hospital policies and professional organizations. Remains current in areas of hospital policy, general information and expertise related to classes taught.
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Two (2) years of prior clinical and/or adult education experience.
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

PREFERRED

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Education, related health field, or a national certification in area of expertise
  • Certified as an American Heart Association BLS instructor, or must become certified within probationary period if teaching CPR
