The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Education Coordinator - Volunteers empowers volunteers through impactful nature interpretation, hands-on activities, and engaging conservation-focused events. You will collaborate across departments to support special events, outreach, and other initiatives, supporting volunteers and interns, and fostering community engagement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting daily operations of the Volunteer Team and Education Department.
  • Developing and implementing conservation-focused educational activities.
  • Planning and coordinating volunteer opportunities and events.
  • Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of educational programs and volunteers.
  • Recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and training volunteers and interns.
  • Mentoring and providing feedback to volunteers and staff.
  • Supporting volunteers’ ongoing education and community building.
  • Collaborating with zoo staff to ensure accurate information dissemination and resource utilization.
  • Developing partnerships with community organizations and corporate volunteers.
  • Aligning departmental goals with zoo priorities.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for working with volunteers of all ages.
  • Strong mentorship and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to ensure safety during programs.
  • Effective communication skills in person, email, and phone.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple departments.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to schedule changes.
  • Motivational skills to engage guests and volunteers.
  • Experience in nature interpretation and educational curriculum development preferred.
  • Knowledge of conservation, zoology, ecology, and animal behavior preferred.
  • Experience with volunteer management and related systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience with volunteer programs at similar facilities preferred.
  • Flexibility to work in varying weather conditions and on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
