Job description

Variety Child Learning Center (VCLC) is a 4410 not-for-profit agency providing quality educational and therapeutic services to young children with disabilities. We are actively recruiting candidates for the Education Coordinator position.

Essential Functions
  • Provide instructional leadership, supervision, and ongoing support to teachers, teaching assistants, and teacher aides.
  • Oversee classroom programming to ensure instruction is individualized, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with student IEP goals.
  • Lead and support the implementation of curriculum, classroom management systems, instructional practices, and positive behavior supports.
  • Ensure classroom practices are consistent with NYS Prekindergarten Learning Standards, Early Learning Guidelines, and the Pyramid Model. Knowledge of the STAR Program curriculum is preferred.
  • Promote safe, structured, and therapeutic classroom environments that support student learning, engagement, and regulation.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, related service providers, and classroom teams to ensure consistent, high-quality educational programming.
  • Conduct classroom observations, provide staff coaching, and support professional growth and problem‑solving.
  • Help ensure compliance with agency, state, and regulatory requirements related to classroom instruction and educational programming.
  • Provide classroom and building support as assigned, including transitions, staffing coverage, lunch and bus duty.
Requirements
  • School Building Leader (SBL) certification required; & master’s degree in special education (preferred)
  • NYS Students with Disabilities – Birth–Grade 2, All Grades, or NYS Special Education Certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of Special Education classroom experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff support skills
  • Experience working with preschool students with disabilities preferred

Work Environment

Physical Demands

This role may be physically demanding. The employee is required to be non-sedentary. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move throughout the school environment. The employee may need to lift and/or assist an average preschool-aged child (35 pounds) and school-age child (50 pounds), as needed.
