The Salvation Army Oakland Chinatown Corps is seeking a part‑time Program Assistant to help create safe, loving, and engaging environments for their Education Center programs in Oakland. BASIC PURPOSE

The Program Assistant assists in providing safe, loving, and learning environments for programs
under the Education Center. Program Assistant assists Corps officer and/or Education Center
Supervisor to run programs including Chinese learning and Music/instrument learning. The
Education Center is an outreach program of The Salvation Army / Oakland Chinatown Corps,
serving the community of all cultures, ethnicities, and ages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Ability to relate to children in a manner which contributes to their personal growth.
  • 2. Ability to competently prevent and deal with discipline problems.
  • 3. Ability to plan and carry‑out lesson plans (content areas: Chinese Language learning,
    Music/ music instruments learning).
  • 4. Ability to assist and conduct an educational activity.
  • 5. Ability to assist active indoor and outdoor games and learning activities.
  • 6. Ability to work cooperatively with Corps Officer / Education center supervisor.
  • 7. Ability to assist activities and prevent exposure to safety hazards.
  • 8. Adhere to The Salvation Army’s “Protecting the Mission Policy for Work with Minors”.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • 1. Minimum age 15 with valid work permit.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • 1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
  • 2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
  • 3. Ability to reach overhead.
  • 4. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. for administrative positions.
  • 5. Ability to operate a computer.
  • 6. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
  • 7. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Telephone, Copier, Printer.
