Robbinsdale Area Schools seeks a Special Education Class 3B Education Assistant for the STARS program at Neill Elementary School in New Hope, MN. This seven-hour-per-day role includes 6.5 paid hours and a 30-minute unpaid lunch, at $24.03 per hour under the current contract plus benefits.

The STARS program supports students with social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs in a structured setting with strong staff involvement, aiming to foster inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in MN), an associate's or higher degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraeducator Assessment.
  • Experience working with students who have cognitive disabilities, physical disabilities and behavior problems preferred.
  • Word processing, filing and computer familiarity.
  • Patient, calm and understanding manner when working with students.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality.
  • Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
  • Able to assist students with classroom assignments.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and has the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing supervision and instruction to students with disabilities.
  • Provides clerical and organizational support to special education teachers as needed.
  • Works with individuals and/or small groups when activities and assignments are presented by mainstream teachers and/or special education teachers.
  • Provides support for students in crisis.
  • Willingness to lift, carry and physically manage as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.

Special Education Class 3B Education Assistant for STARS program
Neill Elementary School

This federal setting III program is for students who have social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs that require programming supports not available in less restrictive settings. Students Taught Alternatives Reach Success (STARS) Students are identified for placement based on their individual needs. STARS students are typically more successful in a smaller, structured, predictable setting with a high staff-to-student ratio. Additionally, they may benefit from targeted social/emotional/behavioral support from the school social workers and psychologists who are an integrated part of the STARS program. Students have access to the typical school environment including the general education classroom, cafeteria, hallways, etc; and increase participation as skills are built in the special education environment.
