About The Role

We are seeking a passionate, analytical audience strategist with a keen eye for content to join as an Editorial Manager, Programming. You will lead content strategy and distribution across channels such as The Athletic home feed, New York Times surfaces, email newsletters, and push alerts. You will collaborate with the newsroom, manage a team of programmers, and oversee daily decision-making and long-term goals.

This is a remote position based in the US or Canada.

Responsibilities
  1. Shape programming strategies to increase subscribers, content views, and retention.
  2. Lead communication and promotion on New York Times surfaces and for major events.
  3. Manage projects with product managers to improve the home feed and subscriber experience.
  4. Collaborate with editorial leadership to improve tools and promote best practices.
  5. Oversee daily push alert decisions and analyze metrics to inform strategy.
  6. Analyze platform metrics regularly to guide curation and content decisions.
  7. Lead multi-platform campaigns around key content and events.
  8. Engage with editors to identify high-performing content and provide feedback.
  9. Coordinate with email, marketing, and design teams to ensure brand consistency.
Minimum Requirements
  1. 7-10 years of experience in journalism, media, content programming, or digital marketing.
  2. Experience managing a team or direct reports.
  3. Proven ability to develop strategies for audience growth and engagement.
  4. Experience with homepage curation and product development.
  5. Data-driven with strong analytical skills.
  6. Experience working cross-functionally in large organizations.
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Interest and knowledge of various sports.
  9. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills under deadlines.

The annual salary range is $85,000 - $95,000 USD, with benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and more. Our benefits are competitive and tailored to each country of residence.
