Job summary

The Boston Globe Media is seeking a Designer to shape the visual presentation of our journalism across print and digital platforms. You will design engaging features and layouts that elevate storytelling and reflect the authority and innovation of our work.

This role partners with editors, reporters, photographers, and product teams to conceive and execute ambitious visual storytelling—from daily news packages to signature features—while upholding brand standards in a fast-paced newsroom based

Qualifications

• 3+ years designing for journalism or newsroom environments
• Experience designing for print and digital platforms preferred
• Strong typographic, visual, and information design skills
• Proficient with content management systems
• Working knowledge of HTML
• Familiar with collaborative workflows and PM tools
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines

Responsibilities

• Design engaging layouts for print and digital news properties
• Collaborate with editors, reporters, photographers, and product teams on features
• Design and build digital story elements using HTML and CSS, including modules and interactive features
• Prototype and implement web-based storytelling components in publishing systems
• Work with product, engineering, and editorial teams on new storytelling tools
• Experiment with new storytelling formats and visual approaches
• Translate reporting into clear, compelling visual experiences
• Ensure visual consistency and uphold brand standards across platforms
• Work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom
• Contribute to evolving design standards, templates, and best practices
