Job summary

Scholastic seeks an Editorial Assistant, Trade Publishing, to assist the Editorial Director and Executive Editor on core Harry Potter titles and select other children’s books. The role is based in New York City with a minimum two days per week in the SoHo office.

You will coordinate with production, design, freelancers, manage copy and metadata, and support publishing strategy in a fast-paced environment; benefits include health, retirement, and tuition programs.

Qualifications

  • Entry-level position with a B.A. in a related field.
  • Strong writing, organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Interest in editorial development and publishing strategy; familiarity with Harry Potter titles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide editorial support for frontlist and backlist Harry Potter titles, including routing material review, coordination with production, design, and freelancers; drafting copy and metadata; proofs review; and reprint corrections.
  • Provide administrative support: scheduling meetings, note-taking, preparing materials, mailings, file-management, and research.
  • Support editorial work on select other titles; review routing passes, draft transmittals, and evaluate submissions.
  • Coordinate cross-departmentally with Sales, Marketing, Publicity, and Scholastic Reading Events for information requests.
  • Participate in ideation of new publishing and backlist opportunities.
