Job summary

Simon & Schuster US is seeking an Editor or Senior Editor for Saga Press to acquire and edit a dynamic list of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction. The role requires a sharp editorial vision, strong author-care, and the ability to balance creative ambition with commercial opportunity.

The position will collaborate across divisions to position each book for success, manage multiple projects, and contribute to Saga Press’s growth and strategic direction.

Qualifications

• 3 years editorial experience for the Editor level and 5–6 years for the Senior Editor level.
• Experience in science fiction, fantasy, horror, or speculative fiction preferred.
• Proven acquisitions and editorial guidance from draft to manuscript.
• Strong knowledge of the genre marketplace and trends.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and edit a successful list of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction titles.
• Identify new authors, emerging voices, publishing trends, and opportunities.
• Evaluate proposals and manuscripts and present acquisition recommendations.
• Develop and maintain relationships with authors, agents, and scouts.
• Provide editorial feedback and guide authors through acquisition to final manuscript.
• Serve as primary contact for authors with clear communication and strategic guidance.
• Create persuasive title information and internal presentations for acquisitions.
• Collaborate with publicity, marketing, art, production, and editorial teams on strategies.
• Advocate for titles and build enthusiasm among stakeholders.
• Participate in cover development, positioning, and launch planning.
• Manage publication schedules and editorial priorities across projects.
• Monitor consumer behavior and trends to inform acquisitions.
