Job summary

Carpenter Co. in Richmond, VA seeks an EDI Developer to design, test, and maintain mapping solutions for partner data exchanges.

The role requires hands-on experience with EDI standards (ANSI X12/EDIFACT), SAP IDoc development, and IBM Sterling B2B Integrator, in a collaborative manufacturing environment. You will work onsite with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, timely EDI transactions such as 850/855/856/810.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, or related field.
• 1-2 years hands-on experience with EDI mapping and communication protocols.
• 1-2 years of experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator.
• 1-2 years of SAP IDoc development and integration experience.
• 1-2 years of XML development and data transformation.
• Strong understanding of EDI standards (ANSI X12 and EDIFACT).
• Hands-on EDI mapping experience in manufacturing or retail.
• Experience with X12 850, 855, 856, 810 transactions.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with trading partners to understand EDI requirements and coordinate across stakeholders.
• Analyze partner specifications and design EDI solutions using mapping tools, SAP integration, and custom development.
• Support daily EDI transaction exchanges for timely data flow and operations.
• Diagnose and resolve EDI production issues with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Create and maintain documentation and standard procedures for EDI workflows.

Carpenter Co. has an opening for an EDI Developer at our corporate office in Richmond, Virginia. This position is onsite and is responsible for creating, maintaining, and testing mapping solutions to maintain a positive business relationship with trading partners.

Additional Responsibilities

• Partner closely with trading partners to understand EDI requirements, coordinating joint planning and implementation efforts across all stakeholders
• Analyze trading partner specifications and design effective EDI solutions using mapping tools, SAP integration, and custom development when needed
• Support daily EDI transaction exchanges to ensure accurate, timely data flow and uninterrupted business operations
• Diagnose and resolve EDI production issues by identifying root causes and implementing lasting corrective actions
• Create and maintain clear, detailed documentation and standard procedures for EDI workflows to support consistency and operational reliability

Required Experience

• 3 - 4 years: SAP iDoc
• 3 - 4 years: EDI Mapping

Preferred Experience

• 3 - 4 years: XML Development

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• 1-2 years of hands‑on experience with EDI mapping and communication protocols
• 1-2 years of experience working with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator
• 1-2 years of SAP IDoc development and integration experience
• 1-2 years of experience in XML development and data transformation
• Strong understanding of EDI standards, including ANSI X12 and EDIFACT
• Hands‑on EDI mapping experience in a manufacturing or retail environment
• Experience working with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator
• Experience supporting core EDI transactions, including X12 850, 855, 856, and 810
• SAP IDoc experience with ORDERS, DELVRY, and INVOIC
• Basic understanding of computer communications and integrations, including FTP, AS1, AS2, and network file sharing
• Familiarity with SAP document flows and EDI/SAP error handling processes
• Additional X12, EDIFACT, or VDA transaction experience
