Job summary

Quartermaster is building the world's most comprehensive maritime intelligence platform. We seek a versatile Applied ML Engineer to develop across computer vision, sensor fusion, and lightweight inference for edge devices, ensuring robust performance in challenging field conditions.

You will collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams to deploy real-world AI solutions, iterate experiments, and optimize models for embedded hardware.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Vision, ML, Robotics; Bachelor's considered on a case-by-case basis.
• 4+ years of experience building and deploying ML models in production.
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Comfortable working with images, time-series, geospatial, RF data.
• Experience with edge/embedded ML deployments, including model compression.
• Familiarity with cross-validation, hyperparameter tuning, and model monitoring.
• Strong debugging, experimentation, and collaboration skills.
• Bonus: maritime, aerospace, or remote sensing experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and evaluate models for object detection, classification, anomaly detection, and sensor-based inference.
• Optimize model architectures and inference pipelines for embedded hardware under compute/bandwidth constraints.
• Contribute to dataset development, labeling strategy, augmentation, and domain adaptation.
• Support prototyping across AI subfields including computer vision, signal processing, and multi-modal fusion.
• Implement real-time pipelines for on-device and cloud processing.
• Develop tools for benchmarking, visualization, and debugging ML performance.
• Stay current with ML research and assess applicability to our product roadmap.
• Participate in reviews, knowledge sharing, and internal documentation.
