Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. in Virginia is seeking a Systems Development Engineer II to design, implement, and operate scalable, reliable network services for AWS Edge Connectivity.

You will build automation pipelines, IaC, and monitoring tools across regions, joining cross‑functional teams and mentoring others in SRE practices. This role requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands‑on systems engineering.
• 2+ years designing or architecting reliable and scalable systems.
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement systems automation, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment pipelines for AWS Edge Connectivity Services across multiple regions.
• Build operational tooling and monitoring systems for efficient service management, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Architect and develop site reliability engineering (SRE) practices, including runbooks, alerting strategies, and automated remediation systems.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate AWS Edge Connectivity systems with AWS infrastructure and government environments.
• Establish and maintain operational standards for service availability, performance, and security; drive continuous improvement using metrics.
• Mentor teammates on systems engineering best practices and automation techniques.
• Participate in on-call rotation to support services during incidents.
