Job summary

6AM City, LLC is seeking a Software Architect to define and lead the technical architecture for an aftermarket In-Cab AI Assistant platform for heavy equipment. The role focuses on end-to-end design across embedded compute, display, audio, and machine interfaces, with emphasis on safety and security.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in software/embedded engineering, strong Linux background, and experience with CAN/J1939 and edge compute. This is a fully onsite contract role based in Illinois.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 8+ years in software or embedded engineering.
• Proven architecture or technical leadership across embedded or edge systems.
• Experience with Linux-based embedded software and hardware integration.
• Familiarity with safety, compliance, and functional constraints.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve end-to-end system architecture for embedded compute and interfaces.
• Provide technical leadership across discovery, implementation, and release readiness.
• Translate objectives into architecture decisions and priorities.
• Ensure safety boundaries and no bypass of confirmation patterns.
• Guide machine integration, grounded assistant behavior, and non-functional requirements.
• Produce architecture artifacts, interface definitions, and decision records.
• Support troubleshooting, supplier coordination, and risk reduction.
