Job summary

Adventist Health Howard Memorial in Willits, CA seeks a unit assistant to support RN and physician with assessments, examinations and treatments, under supervision. This role performs essential unit secretary duties and maintains readiness.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, CPR/BLS certification, and prefer an Associate’s/Technical degree or related experience. EMT, CNA/CMA, Paramedic and phlebotomy certifications are a plus.

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification: Preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (CMA) or Paramedic certification: Preferred
  • Phlebotomist Technician license: Preferred
  • EMT or Paramedic or Phlebotomy Tech (CPT/CPTII) or CMA: Required

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Registered Nurse (RN) and physician with assessments, examinations and treatments. Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations.
  • Maintains state of readiness by maintaining equipment/supplies appropriate to the position. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Prioritizes patient care and department needs, sets goals, and organizes time to meet daily demands of nursing care. Observes, documents and reports patient condition and changes in condition to the RN, MD/Provider.
  • Provides patient and family education within scope of practice.
  • Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations. Records and collects specimens.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Assists the Registered Nurse (RN) and physician with assessments, examinations and treatments. Performs a variety of technical and patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs essential functions of the Unit Secretary.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification: Preferred
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (CMA) or Paramedic certification: Preferred
  • Phlebotomist Technician license: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic (PM) or Phlebotomy Tech (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician II (CPTII) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA): Required
