ED Technician I Full Time Nights
Description

DMC Harper University Hospital has distinguished itself in surgery and medicine and is known for its clinical expertise and innovative research. A specialty referral hospital, Harper has established Centers of Excellence in neurosciences, bariatric surgery, vascular services, multidisciplinary cardiovascular services, hypertension, stroke prevention, and heart failure.

Job Summary

The ED Tech is a member of the emergency department patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The ED TECH works under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based on patient needs and ED Tech skills and scope of practice.

  1. Collaborates and cooperates with care team members to ensure consistency and quality of care, promoting productive employee relations. Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and the mission, vision, and values of the DMC.
  2. Assists the registered nurse by gathering data on patient conditions, direct observation, and reporting changes in patient medical/emotional status. Documents interventions and patient responses according to policy. Responds to emergency patient situations as needed.
  3. Assists in training and orientation of other technicians and care team members as directed.
  4. Follows departmental policies, procedures, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  5. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy, answers questions, explains procedures within scope, and maintains confidentiality.
  6. Performs general clerical duties as required, such as answering phones, greeting patients and visitors.
  7. Participates in workshops, educational programs, and reviews literature to enhance personal growth. Shares accountability for maintaining competencies.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Graduation from a school of practical nursing OR completion of one of the following programs:
    1. Certified PCA/PCT Program
    2. Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training
    3. Medical Assistant Program
    4. EMT Program
    5. Phlebotomy training program
  3. Six (6) months of direct patient care experience preferred.
