Job Description - ED Technician I Full Time Nights (2506000629)

Job Summary

The ED Tech is a member of the emergency department patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The ED TECH works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs, ED Tech skills, and scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with care team members to ensure quality care and promote positive employee relations. Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and the mission, vision, and values of DMC.
  2. Assist registered nurses by gathering data on patient conditions, observing patients directly, reporting changes in medical or emotional status, and documenting interventions and responses according to policy. Support nursing staff in emergency situations.
  3. Assist in training and orientation of other technicians and care team members as directed.
  4. Follow departmental policies, procedures, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  5. Maintain sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy, answer questions, explain procedures within scope, and ensure confidentiality.
  6. Perform clerical duties as needed, such as answering phones, greeting patients and visitors.
  7. Participate in workshops, educational programs, and review current literature to enhance personal growth. Share accountability for maintaining competencies.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Graduation from a practical nursing program OR completion of one of the following:
  • A Certified PCA/PCT Program
  • A Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent
  • A Medical Assistant Program
  • An EMT Program
  • A phlebotomy training program
  • Preferred: Six (6) months of direct patient care experience.
