Powers Health invites you to join the ED Tech team at St Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. This role provides basic patient care plus elements of critical care including phlebotomy, wound care, EKG leads, and support for nurses during emergencies.

You will work under Powers Health policies, maintain asepsis, document vital signs, assist with diagnostics, and help with wound care and infection control.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid license: RMAs, EMT/Paramedic, or LPN.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process test requisitions accurately and promptly.
  • Label samples accurately and completely.
  • Maintain supplies inventory and perform functional inventory tasks.
  • Perform point-of-care testing.
  • Measure and record vital signs and report abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Orient patient to cubicle and call system.
  • Maintain asepsis in all patient contact tasks.
  • Perform routine wound care and assist with suturing.
  • Assist with diagnostic examinations.
  • Follow infection-control procedures.

Position Summary

Are you looking for a team focused and energizing role in an Emergency Room setting? Then St Catherine Hospital’s ED Tech position may be what you are looking for! The ED Tech provides basic patient care along with elements of critical care including but not limited to: Phlebotomy, Wound Care, EKG leads, and post molds. The ED Tech practices in accordance with current established standards of care, the Policies and Procedure of the Emergency Department, the Powers Health policies and procedures, and supports the mission and philosophy of Powers Health.

Job Responsibilities
  • Processes test requisitions accurately, completely, and in a timely manner per established procedure.
  • Labels samples accurately and completely.
  • Maintains specimen collection supplies in an orderly condition. Perform inventory function as needed.
  • Performs point of care testing:
  • Measures and records vital signs (i.e. temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure) and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
  • Orients patient to cubicle and call system.
  • Utilizes principles of asepsis in all aspects of patient contact.
  • Practices appropriate safety measures in use of equipment in clinical responsibilities.
  • Performs routine wound care, including cleansing, application of dressing and compresses and assisting with suturing.
  • Assists with diagnostic exams.
  • Performs basic isolation and infection control procedures
Education/Experience
  • The level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through the completion of high school level course work. Ability to read, write and spell.
  • Registered Medical Assistant or EMT/Paramedic license or LPN license required.
  • Fundamental understanding of medical terminology and computer.
