Job summary

WMCH Weirton Medical Center is seeking a Paramedic/Technician to greet patients in the ED and provide routine patient care under nurse or physician direction. The role includes phlebotomy, EKGs, IV insertion, vitals, and assisting with therapies while ensuring safety and confidentiality.

Minimum qualifications include WV paramedic licensure, CPR/ACLS/PALS, AVADE training, and at least 1 year of pre-hospital EMS experience. The position is non-exempt and located in Weirton, WV.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current licensure as required by state where services are provided.
  • WV paramedic license or state license equivalent.
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • AVADE training.
  • Minimum 1 year of pre-hospital EMS experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors in the Emergency Department.
  • Performs routine tests such as phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, and EKGs.
  • Performs IV insertion under physician direction.
  • Provides patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
  • Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
  • Transports stable patients on cardiac monitors to inpatient units.
  • Provides instruction to patients and families under RN supervision.
  • Obtains routine vital signs and monitors oxygen delivery as directed.

Greets patients and visitors in the Emergency Department and provides routine patient care in an efficient, safe and timely manner in accordance with established policies and procedures. The paramedic tech is directed by the nurse or physician to assure the highest degree of quality patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Must possess current Licensure as required by state where services are being provided:

WV: Paramedic through West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services

  1. Nationally registered as required by state board:

WV: Paramedic through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (Unless state license is State License Only (SLO)

  1. CPR certification.

  2. ACLS certification.

  3. PALS certification.

  4. AVADE training.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. One (1) year of pre-hospital/emergency medical services experience.

  1. Greets patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department.

  2. Performs routine tests such as phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, and EKGs.

  3. Performs IV insertion under the direction and guidance of the physician.

  4. Provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living.

  5. Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.

  6. Transports stable patients on cardiac monitors to inpatient units.

  7. Provides instruction to patients and families under the direction of the RN.

  8. Obtains routine vital signs including temperature/pulse/respiratory/rate (TPR), blood pressure (BP), oxygen saturate (02 STAT) and may assist with applying and removing physical restraints as directed by the physician. Also, may remove oxygen tubing from a wall gauge, attach tubing to an oxygen tank and adjust the flow meter on the tank as ordered by the physician.
