Description

The Emergency Department Technician provides support to nurses, physicians, and other clinical staff in the delivery of patient care within the Emergency Department. This role assists with patient assessments, monitors vital signs, prepares patients for procedures, and performs clinical and non-clinical tasks to ensure efficient and safe patient care. Additional responsibilities include basic secretarial/receptionist, housekeeping and general supply duties. The ED Technician contributes to patient flow, infection control, and overall departmental operations while maintaining a compassionate, professional approach to patient interactions in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Oregon Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • At least one (1) year of verifiable work experience as an ED Tech/ED CNA preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of verifiable work experience as a CNA preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with patient care by taking vital signs, performing basic clinical procedures, preparing patients for exams and treatments, and performing post-mortem care.
  • Documents patient information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) or departmental logs.
  • Supports nursing and medical staff during assessments, procedures, and emergency interventions.
  • Prepares and maintains equipment and supplies for procedures, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.
  • Transports patients safely within the hospital, including to and from the ED, diagnostic tests, and other departments.
  • Performs infection control and sanitation tasks, including cleaning patient rooms, treatment areas, and equipment according to hospital protocols.
  • Assists with patient admissions and discharges, including patient positioning, monitoring, and education as directed by nursing staff.
  • Responds to emergency situations under the direction of nurses and physicians, providing support for trauma, resuscitation, and other urgent care needs.
  • Maintains patient safety by observing, reporting changes in condition, and following hospital safety protocols.
  • Assists in identifying patients with needs beyond the ED, working with the clinical care team to facilitate appropriate referrals to ensure continuity of care and follow-up services.
  • Performs clerical and receptionist duties, including answering phones, greeting patients, and assisting with patient flow, while also monitoring and restocking general supplies to ensure smooth departmental operations.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, responding calmly to emergencies and changing priorities.
  • Ability to take vital signs, assist with procedures, and monitor patient condition under the supervision of nurses and physicians.
  • Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment and ensure supplies are stocked and functional.
  • Ability to perform basic secretarial duties, document patient information accurately, and manage workflow efficiently.
  • Skilled in positioning, transporting, and observing patients while maintaining safety and comfort.
  • Skilled in clear and professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently independently with ability to assist with heavier weights (100+ pounds) with team lift or mechanical equipment.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  • Requires frequent use of computer

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of RNs and providers
  • Assist with patient assessments, vital signs, and documentation
  • Support emergency procedures and interventions as directed
  • Perform EKGs, splinting, wound care, and specimen collection
  • Transport patients and assist with mobility and safety needs
  • Maintain cleanliness, stocking, and readiness of patient care areas
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and emergency situations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting
  • Training or experience with EKG or emergency procedures
Required Qualifications:
  • Active CNA License within Oregon
  • Current AHA BLS Certification
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and high acuity environment

Compensation: $21.96-$30.27 DOE
