Job summary

ED Overview

The George Washington University Hospital Emergency Department is a 62-bed, 24/7 Level I Trauma Center that provides comprehensive care for patients with acute illness, trauma, and critical emergencies. Our ED features resuscitation rooms, fast‑track areas, and dedicated spaces for trauma, cardiac, and stroke care, supported by advanced diagnostic and surgical services. Team members work alongside board‑certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and highly skilled emergency‑trained nurses in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment focused on exceptional, patient‑centered care.

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in our Level I Trauma Center's Emergency Department, you will be at the forefront of providing critical care to patients with urgent and life‑treating medical conditions. Our Emergency Department is known for its fast‑paced environment and its commitment to excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. You will work alongside a dedicated team of medical professionals to deliver high‑quality care and support to patients and their families during critical times.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a dynamic, challenging emergency department setting.
  • Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement care for patients across a wide range of conditions.
  • Administer medications, perform procedures, and monitor patient responses to treatment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and research opportunities.
Qualifications
  • BSN or currently enrolled.
  • DC RN License, or eligibility.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in an emergency department or critical care setting is preferred.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Exceptional clinical skills and judgment.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and react effectively in emergencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
