Job summary

Omaha Public Schools seeks a Paraprofessional for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) in a part-time, temporary role with a January 2027 start. You will support the ECSE teacher by working with children individually or in small groups, assist with in-class duties, and help with transitions, self-care tasks, and documentation.

The position emphasizes safety, adaptability, and collaboration within a diverse team.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours or demonstrated proficiency in instruction assistance.
• Preferred: Associate's Degree or CDA certificate.
• Willingness to complete early childhood education coursework.
• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards preferred.
• Must lift 50 pounds and assist with physical tasks.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Work with children individually or in small groups under teacher direction.
• Assist in classroom duties: preparing materials, bulletin boards, equipment, snacks, etc.
• Assist with arts and crafts activities.
• Assist students during transitions in and out of ECSE classroom.
• Record student information and assist teacher with routine reporting.
• Help students with dressing, toileting, and self-care activities.
• Assist with field trips, drills, and other activities as assigned.
