Job summary

Southern Boone School District is seeking a Full Time Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2025-2026 school year. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with preference for an associate degree and/or ParaPro certification.

Experience with special education and knowledge of behavioral interventions is valued. You will assist the teacher, work with individuals or small groups, monitor behavior, and support essential personal care tasks in ECSE and Life Skills

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or two years of postsecondary education preferred.
• Must meet paraprofessional certification requirements (e.g., ParaPro Assessment).
• Prior experience in educational or care settings is preferred.
• Ability to support students with physical, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
• Willingness to assist with personal care and hygiene when necessary.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work across buildings and with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with instruction and classroom management.
• Work one-on-one or with small groups to reinforce learning activities.
• Support students with IEPs or 504 plans as outlined by staff.
• Monitor and support student behavior, providing redirection or intervention.
• Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting and hygiene.
• Prepare and organize classroom materials and supplies.
• Accompany students during transitions, meals, recess and activities.
• Document observations and student progress as directed by supervising staff.
• Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment; maintain confidentiality.

Education

Job description

Southern Boone County R-1 Schools has an opening for a Full Time Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2025-2026 school year. Qualified applicants must have 60 college credit hours or a passing score on the Missouri Content Assessment exam for Paraprofessionals. Experience and/or degree in special education, including knowledge of a variety of behavioral interventions, is preferred. Patience, the ability to be flexible, and an understanding of students with disabilities is a must.Additional responsibilities willinclude assisting students with special needs on a bus route.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the teacher with instruction and classroom management.
• Work one-on-one or with small groups of students to reinforce learning activities.
• Support students with special needs as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans.
• Monitor and support student behavior, providing redirection or intervention when needed.
• Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting and hygiene, especially in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and Life Skills classrooms.
• Prepare and organize classroom materials and supplies.
• Accompany students during transitions, meals, recess, and other activities throughout the school day.
• Document observations and student progress as directed by supervising staff.
• Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district and school policies at all times.
