Job summary

Augusta University is seeking a Physician Assistant for the East Central Regional Hospital, Augusta Campus. The role focuses on admissions, initial assessment, and coordination with emergency and crisis facilities to determine appropriate level of care.

  • Reviews incoming referrals from ERs, crisis stabilization units, jails, and other facilities to determine acceptance.
  • Makes clinical decisions with regards to medications, medical clearance, and level of care.
  • Communicates effectively with referring facilities and community members (e.g., probate court, regional board).
  • Communicates well with other ECRH disciplines.
  • Covers temporary observation unit as needed/as directed.
  • CE/CEUs training quarterly, bi-annually, and annually as required.
  • All other duties as necessary.

College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This incumbent is responsible for admissions at the East Central Regional Hospital, Augusta Campus for the following responsibilities to include (but not limited to): performing initial mental health and physical exams and other documentation required for an admission to the facility; reviews incoming referrals from emergency rooms, crisis stabilization units, jails, and other facilities in a detailed manner as well as identifies any additional information needed to make the decision to accept the patient in question; makes good clinical decision with regards to medications, need for medical clearance, level of care (inpatient v. EATO).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Admissions: Performs initial mental health and physical exams and other documentation required for an admission to the facility.
  • Reviews incoming referrals from emergency rooms, crisis stabilization units, jails, and other facilities in a detailed manner as well as identifies any additional information needed to make the decision to accept the patient in question.
  • Makes good clinical decisions with regards to medications, need for medical clearance, level of care (inpatient vs EATO).
  • Communication: Communicates effectively with the referring facilities as well as any other community members, such as staff at probate court, the regional board, for examples.
  • Communicates well with other ECRH disciplines.
  • Coverage: Covers temporary observation unit if needed/as directed.
  • CE/CEU and Training: AU and DBHDD training quarterly, bi-annually, and annually as required.
  • CE/CEUs as needed.
  • Other: All other duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • MSN, DNP, PA from an accredited college or university.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS.

Preferred Educational Qualifications: Dual certified in family medicine and psychiatry

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to differentiate between SMI diagnosis.
  • Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position).
  • Pay Band: 16.
  • Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
  • Recruitment Period: 7/20/26 - Until Filled.
