Job summary

The Office of Workforce Development, part of Louisiana Works in Baton Rouge, seeks an Economist 2 to analyze labor market data and produce public reports. You will review micro and macroeconomic indicators, collaborate on targeted studies, and develop state projections using Projections Suite software.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s or Doctorate in economics, with relevant experience in economic analysis and data visualization.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in economics with at least one year of experience in economics, or a Doctorate in economics.
• Experience analyzing labor market data from sources such as BLS, BEA, Census, LMI, and UI programs.
• Ability to produce graphs, tables, and reports for public reporting.
• Familiarity with Projections Suite software for state projections.

The Economist 2 is responsible for analyzing labor market data, including, but not limited to, employment, unemployment, civilian labor force participation, labor migration patterns, and business cycles.

The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of Louisiana Works managing programs in workforce training, job placement, apprenticeships, and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards, educational institutions, and industry partners, OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need, contributing to the state’s economic growth.

A master's degree in economics plus one year of experience in economics; OR

A doctorate in economics.

Job Duties:

• Reviews and analyzes micro and macro level economic and labor force data from various sources, including but not limited to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), Census Bureau, Labor Market Information (LMI), and Unemployment Insurance programs.
• Produce graphs, tables, and reports that satisfy the need for public reporting.
• Work with partners on specific studies and requests to develop robust research and analysis reports.
• Clean and analyze input data used in developing the Industry and Occupational Employment Projections.
• Upload data, process, and develop projections for federal deliverables and forecasts for the state using Projections Suite software.
• Provides expert consultation on the informative capacity of labor market information data in evaluating public policy decisions.
