Job summary

South Piedmont Community College invites applications for an Economics Adjunct Instructor. The successful candidate will teach Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, delivering courses in asynchronous and synchronous formats across Monroe and Polkton campuses or online.

Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in Economics or a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Economics. Canvas training or proven Canvas experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics OR completed Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Economics.
  • Preferred: community college teaching experience.
  • Preferred: online teaching experience.
  • All SPCC courses use Canvas; must complete Canvas training or provide proof of Canvas experience.

  • Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and deliver instruction accordingly.
  • Facilitate and deliver curriculum using effective learning strategies to promote student success in a learning-centered environment.
  • Deliver instruction via online, hybrid, and classroom activities to support student success.
  • Participate in continuous improvement planning through assessment of learning outcomes at the course level.
  • Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources to enhance learning and maintain program currency.
  • Stay current with developments in economics and learning theory.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in developing and executing long- and short-range plans for instruction.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position.
  • Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college.
  • Maintain and submit all required class records and syllabi by applicable deadlines.
  • Accept teaching assignments at the Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online with flexible scheduling.

Job description

The Economics Adjunct Instructor provides quality-learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the School of Arts and Sciences. Class offerings may include Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.

Classes are offered in asynchronous and synchronous modalities. Synchronous teaching assignments may be scheduled at the Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online, with flexible scheduling options across daytime, evening, weekend based on departmental needs and instructor availability.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement planning through the assessment of learning outcomes at the course level
  • Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency
  • Stay current with developments in the field of technology and learning theory
  • Demonstrate high-level professionalism in developing and/or implementing long- and short-range plans in accordance with the philosophy of a learning-centered college
  • Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered college
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
  • Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college
  • Maintain and submit all required class records and/or reports on time
  • Ensure courses and syllabi are set up by applicable deadlines as established by your supervisor
  • Accept teaching assignments scheduled at the Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online, with flexible scheduling options across daytime, evening, and weekend based on departmental needs and instructor availability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree or above in Economics OR a completed Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Economics

  • All SPCC courses use Canvas as a course delivery system. Upon hiring, adjuncts must successfully complete Canvas training experience or provide documented proof of Canvas experience.
