Job summary

The City of Clute is seeking an Economic Development and Tourism Director to lead strategies that promote growth, attract businesses, and enhance tourism within the city. This role involves collaborating with officials, developers, investors, and community groups to boost the local economy and create jobs.

The candidate will oversee marketing, incentives, and grants while coordinating with multiple agencies and reporting to the City Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 3–5 years in economic development, tourism, business recruitment, or related field.
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
• Experience working with government agencies, businesses, and community organizations.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and public speaking skills.
• Knowledge of grant writing, funding programs, and financial management.
• Ability to analyze data, market trends, and economic reports to inform decision-making.
• Exhibits integrity, teamwork, industriousness, and sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement economic development strategies to attract, retain, and expand businesses.
• Identify opportunities for commercial, industrial, and retail development.
• Oversee marketing, recruitment, and retention of retail, commercial and tourism businesses.
• Serve as liaison between the City and business community, including investors.
• Manage grants, incentives, and funding programs for growth.
• Monitor economic trends and inform policy decisions.
• Collaborate with agencies on development initiatives.
• Lead promotional activities and maintain a comprehensive site/building inventory.
• Prepare internal/external reporting for stakeholders and City Council.
