Job summary

The Barnes Foundation seeks a Merchandising and Buying Assistant to support the Barnes and Calder Gardens retail operation. You will handle visual merchandising, ordering, receiving, inventory tracking, reporting, and online sales across Shopify-based sites.

You will assist with reconciliations, sales reporting, inventory transfers, and developing online product listings with photography coordination and copy. Strong writing, Photoshop editing, and content management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/equivalency with four years' work/volunteer experience or associate's degree with two years' experience or bachelor's degree.
• Retail experience preferred, sales and/or inventory processing.
• Photo editing experience required (resize, crop, light touchup in Photoshop).
• Strong writing skills: excellent grammar, spelling and English usage.
• Fluent with content management systems and digital file organization (OneDrive, Google Drive, WeTransfer, or Dropbox).
• Proficiency with social media sites (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest).
• Online retail merchant experience: eBay, Amazon, Etsy, Poshmark, or Depop seller account experience preferred.
• Must enjoy working with the public, professionalism, enthusiasm, customer-centric approach.
• Must be proficient with Word/Excel/Outlook/Basecamp or similar PM software and POS/inventory systems.
• Excellent verbal, telephone, email, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with product reorders, receiving, transfers, and tracking.
• Reconcile invoices to packing lists and purchase orders.
• Monitor online inventory levels and adjust online quantities weekly.
• Support floor resets and visual merchandising standards.
• Create clean copy for online merchandise listings.
• Coordinate product photographers for e-commerce images.
• Create Shopify listings with proper category tagging and alt text.
• Maintain updated product photography files for print and digital use.
• Manage discount codes and coordinate with Marketing for promotions.
• Interpret sales reports to identify remerchandising or repricing needs.
• Create shipping profiles for online and in-store shipping.
