Job summary

The Oak Openings Restoration Crew Member is based at Kitty Todd Nature Preserve in Swanton, Ohio, and covers the Oak Openings region of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The role is full-time (35-40 hours/week) with duties including invasive species control, ecological restoration, and tool maintenance, often using databases and GIS apps on mobile devices.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and 1 year’s training in a science-related field or related land management experience.
Experience recognizing plant and animal species.
Experience operating equipment safely (e.g., lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV/ATV, etc.).
Experience working in a team environment.
Must be able to obtain related licenses (First Aid, CPR, Pesticide, etc.).

Responsibilities

Supervises no staff but may help plan preserve work groups.
May work in variable weather, remote locations, on difficult terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
May require long hours in isolated settings.
Makes day-to-day decisions as delegated by supervisor.
May work under infrequent supervision.
