Job summary

Northwestern Medicine in Chicago is seeking an ECMO Specialist - RN to monitor ECMO circuits, assist in cannulation, and coordinate multidisciplinary patient care on a high-acuity unit.

The role requires a BSN, IL RN licensure, BLS and ACLS, with CTICU experience and CCRN preferred. Comprehensive benefits and a competitive hourly rate are provided. This is a full-time on-site position with union-informed pay scales.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required.
• Registered Professional Nurse licensure in Illinois required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications are required by the role.

Responsibilities

• Monitors, operates, and adjusts ECMO circuits to maintain patient-specific parameters.
• Assess ECMO circuit continuously and troubleshoot difficulties.
• Assist cannulation and respond to eCPR, SHOCK, and lung rescue calls.
• Set up and prime ECMO circuits independently.
• Complete shift audits and ensure seamless deployment of circuits and equipment.
• Troubleshoot circuit issues and manage inter-hospital transport as needed.
• Collaborate with ECMO Coordinators and Physician Leadership to advance the program.
• Participate in staff training, competencies, and quality review per ELSO guidelines.
• Maintain documentation and data capture for quality outcomes.
