Job summary

University of Michigan’s Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor seeks an Extracorporeal Life Support Specialist (ELS Specialist) to operate and coordinate ECMO systems for cardiopulmonary support. You will set up circuits, monitor flow and coagulation, and train staff on equipment.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, respiratory therapy or perfusion, BLS, current Michigan Respiratory Therapist license, and ICU experience. Nights, 3 twelve‑hour shifts per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing, respiratory therapy or perfusion.
• BLS certification required.
• Current Michigan Respiratory Therapist license.
• At least 2 years of ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate and coordinate extracorporeal life support systems to provide cardiac and/or pulmonary support for patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.
• Set up and operate equipment to monitor blood flow, volume, temperature and coagulation.
• Maintain infusion of drugs, fluids and blood products into circuit.
• Instruct staff in operation of equipment and tests.
• Transport patients on life support systems and respond to emergencies.
• Coordinate orientation for new staff and assist in training courses.
