Job description

Job Summary: Responsible for a variety of technical duties necessary to acquire echocardiographic examinations and maintain the normal operation of the adult echocardiography laboratory. Cardiac sonographers independently perform or assist licensed practitioners in cardiac imaging procedures. They prepare, administer, and document activities related to ultrasound enhancing agents in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or institutional policies. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in their assigned department.

Job Duties
  1. Ensure correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for the exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and documented while respecting confidentiality.
  2. Utilize appropriate imaging protocols and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety and care, applying ALARA principles.
  3. Prepare and/or administer medications through vascular access sites as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  4. Evaluate images for proper positioning and quality, verify archival storage and transfer of data, and post-process data if applicable.
  5. Educate and monitor students and other healthcare providers.
  6. Ensure correct order, patient identification, and documentation of clinical history.
  7. Prepare and/or administer ultrasound enhancing agents following ASE guidelines.
  8. Communicate abnormal or unexpected findings to the provider to prioritize additional testing or urgent care.
  9. Collaborate with licensed practitioners in sonographic interventional procedures.
  10. Ensure equipment parameters meet diagnostic and interventional standards as requested.
  11. Perform diagnostic and interventional sonographic procedures as prescribed or during educational activities.

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The employee is accountable for fulfilling job obligations and complying with organizational policies. The statements are not all-inclusive; additional competencies outlined in department-specific orientation are essential.

Position Details

Work Requirements: 10 hours - Saturday and Sunday 6am-4:30pm

  • This opportunity is part-time (0.5 FTE) and includes benefits.
  • Requires 46 weekends per year
  • Hourly premium added to the regular pay rate

Certifications required upon hire:

  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program
  • Certification by ARRT, ARDMS, or CCI within 6 months
  • Adult Echocardiography: ARDMS (AE) or CCI credential
