Typical duties include transthoracic echocardiograms, acquiring 2D/Doppler/M-mode images, and documenting findings in the EMR. Candidates should have ARDMS RDCS or CCI RCS certification and at least two years of echocardiography

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography program.
  • Current ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS) certification in echocardiography.
  • Minimum of two years of echocardiography experience; experience with complex heart disease imaging preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms for patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
  • Assist physicians with advanced echocardiography studies by acquiring high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Obtain accurate 2D, Doppler, and M-mode cardiac imaging per protocols.
  • Recognize abnormal cardiac findings and adapt imaging techniques for diagnostic-quality exams.
  • Perform and document electrocardiograms (EKGs/ECGs) and support Holter/event monitor placement.
  • Assist cardiologists during patient evaluations and clinical procedures as needed.
  • Ensure all diagnostic studies are labeled, documented, and uploaded into the EMR.
  • Provide preliminary technical observations to support timely physician interpretation.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, and staff to deliver patient-centered care.
  • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, infection prevention, and quality initiatives.

A typical day for an Echocardiographer may include:
  • Performing comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms for patients with congenital and acquired heart disease
  • Assisting physicians with advanced echocardiography studies by acquiring high-quality diagnostic images and supporting clinical documentation
  • Obtaining accurate 2D, Doppler, and M-mode cardiac imaging in accordance with cardiology protocols and best practices
  • Recognizing abnormal cardiac findings and adapting imaging techniques to ensure complete, diagnostic-quality examinations
  • Performing and documenting electrocardiograms (EKGs/ECGs) while supporting additional cardiac diagnostic testing, including Holter and event monitor placement
  • Assisting cardiologists and heart specialists during patient evaluations and clinical procedures as needed
  • Ensuring all diagnostic studies are accurately measured, labeled, documented, and uploaded into the electronic medical record to support continuity of care
  • Providing preliminary technical observations when appropriate to support timely physician interpretation
  • Collaborating closely with cardiologists, specialists, nurses, and administrative team members to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Maintaining compliance with accreditation standards, infection prevention practices, organizational policies, and quality initiatives while supporting efficient outpatient workflow and timely completion of diagnostic studies
